Meet the Breed: Beagle
Beagle-9 Beagles are part of the hound breed. They originated in England around the 16th century. They were used to hunt small preys such as rabbits. Today, they are seen as a popular breed amongst families.Appearance & SizeBeagles are small to mid sized dogs, height ranging from 13 to 15 inches, and weighing between 8 to 13kgs. Beagles look like a mini Foxhound. They have a square cut muzzle, large ears and eyes. Beagles have a variety of coat colours, the most common being the white with black and light brown tricolour combination. The other colours that can be found are white and tan, red and white, orange and white, lemon and white, brown and white.Temperament/PersonalityBeagles are sweet, gentle and carefree. They require early socialization with other pets and people. Additionally, it is also important to give them obedience training to avoid making them stubborn. They are a fun-loving breed and provide great companionship to their owners.GroomingBeagles have a dense and short double coat. Their coat tends to become thicker during the winter months. Beagles have minimal shedding compared to other breeds. They require occasional brushing of their coat and baths only when necessary.HealthbeagleBeagles have a lifespan of 12 to 15 years.They require regular exercise to avoid obesity. Generally, beagles are known to be a very healthy breed but some common issues that this breed may face are intervertebral disc disease, progressive retinal atrophy, glaucoma, and epilepsy.
