How Hearty by HUFT Helps Pups Grow

Getting your pup onto a healthy, nutritious diet is a fundamental part of this life stage. Since pups have plenty of growing to do, balanced and nourishing meals are essential to support their development. The Hearty oven-baked puppy food prioritises just this.

We’ve innovated the way kibble is made from start to finish so that your pup’s food is rich in nutrients and contains none of the artificial preservatives you want to avoid.

Regular kibble is made by a process called ‘extrusion’ that involves high temperatures which strips the nutrients from the ingredients. Sometimes it’s unclear where the ingredients come from and usually preservatives are added to extend shelf-life.

But for Hearty oven-baked puppy food, we decided to do everything a little differently. And most importantly, to be transparent about how we do things so you know exactly how each bowlful you’re serving is made.

Here's how we do things for Hearty Oven-Baked Puppy Food

Step 1: Choose fresh ingredients

• Fresh animal protein as an ingredient: To start with, we ensure that 60% of Hearty puppy food consists of animal protein. Protein is a key component of a puppy’s diet and contributes to everything from the development of strong bones and muscles to even brain development.
• Human-grade ingredients: Whether it’s animal protein or veggies, the ingredients that we include in the preparation for Hearty are Human-Grade. We don't use any by-products that are leftover from other industries or cut corners.
• Custom-designed appliances: It was important to us to ensure that up to 60% of the recipe is meat. Regular kibble processors are not built to accept fresh meat as an ingredient, so we had to custom-design the machines we use. We insist on using fresh, good-quality cuts for your pups.
• Responsibly sourced fruit and vegetables: The best way to make vitamins and minerals available to pups is straight from the source, so we use fresh fruit and vegetables in the process.
• Nutritionally rich Indian ‘super’ herbs: Our recipes make the most of traditional Indian knowledge about herbs and their nutritional properties. For example, ashwagandha has been added for its healing properties and moringa for its anti-inflammatory benefits. Pups are prone to bruising themselves and their muscles stretch as they grow, these herbs are added to heal and soothe your pups at this stage.

Step 2: Cook the ingredients with the utmost care

• Small batches: Our process is designed with the aim of preserving as many nutrients as possible. So, these ingredients are cooked carefully in small batches.
• Cold-pressed process: In order to retain maximum nutrients, the ingredients are first cold-pressed with as little air and heat as possible.
• Baked at gentle temperatures: The ingredients are then baked at temperatures low enough to retain as many nutrients as possible.

Step 3: Avoid filler ingredients, artificial additives and GMO

• No animal by-products, corn or soy: Corn and soy are often used to economise the kibble-making process. We do not use these ingredients as they can cause irritation and allergic reactions in dogs. We also avoid using ingredients that are scraps or by-products from other industries.
• No artificial preservatives or stabilisers: Conventionally, preservatives are used to make sure that kibble lasts longer. But we don’t add any artificial preservatives to Hearty. They’re also made in small batches, sold and served when they’re fresh for optimal puppy nutrition.
• No artificial flavours: The flavours that your pups enjoy in a bowlful of Hearty are from the ingredients themselves. The high meat content makes the food tempting and we do not add any flavour enhancers.
• No GMOs: We do not use GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) in our recipes to make the process more earth-friendly.
